Donewell Beyeler Cybelec CNC EURO 30

The press has an issue, that after about an hour of operation, the right y axis moves a bit abruptly instead of smooth. Leaving the left and right y axis uneven and so causing the beam to have a significant angle to horizontal.

Before troubleshooting it was decided to check and clean the Cybelec euro 30 unit. The 1989 capacitors far exceeded their lifetime at significant cost of capacity and ESR. All dubious capacitors where replaced, the supercapacitor and many bad solder joints were fixed thanks to POSrepair for the service.

After replacing the capacitors the Cybelec decided to make a terrible clicking noise and show a blinking screen with the key in ¨run¨ mode.

With the new caps the 5V switch mode power supply(SMPS) i thought it didn't want to start under load anymore. Some tests showed it could only manage a 2 ampere load during power up. It was replaced with a modern higher frequency SMPS. However this was not the cause.

After some testing it appeared that with the key in ¨progr¨ or ¨pm¨ mode the above screen was shown:

Some damage to the RAM because of replacing the supercapacitor was probably the cause of this. After filling in a 1 in all three clear variables zones and ¨817¨ in execution code the machine operated normally again. However, still with the y axis problem.. So this was no success but at least the SMPS doesn't interfere with the FM radio anymore.
